Part 2 after the break!
"OK, we've got the bloody
demon nurse, my doctor coat, some miscellaneous props, sandwiches and water for
everyone, enough fake blood to drown a small child, a small collection of wigs,
and your makeup kits. Oh, and my bag in the back seat. What are the others
bringing?" Sean stepped up to the trunk and smirked, holding up a pair of
plastic glasses with eyebrows and a nose attached. "Nice horror props
you've got there.” Paul snatched them from her hand, saying, “I’ll have you
know that I found Groucho Marx terrifying as a child.” Sean snorted. “Uh-huh.
Anyway, I'm not sure exactly. We'll have to see when they get here." She
stepped around the car to see into the back seat. "What's in that black
bag anyway?" Paul couldn't help the smile creeping over his face. "Oh
nothing much, just some flashlights and a few sundries designed to make our
night a little more comfortable."Sean's brow furrowed. "Wha-"
"Oh hey,” Paul said hurriedly, “they're here!" The rocks crunched under
his feet as he ran across the driveway to flag down the van coming in from the
street. The sudden light reflecting off of the building's windows made Sean
wince as they pulled in. She hadn't realized how dark it had gotten since they
had arrived. A pale arm waved at Paul from within the cab of the van. "Hey
guys!” exclaimed a male voice."Hey Fred, did everyone make it?" Paul
knew it was Fred as he was the only other guy invited to the shoot. "Yeah,
they're all here!" As they piled out of the minivan Paul was reminded of a
clown car unloading. Almost simultaneously Hannah, Jennifer, Liz, and Ann tumbled
from the van in various states of disarray.
Everyone looked fantastic, as they usually
did. As Liz had once said, “We are a good looking group of people!” They had
all laughed, of course, at the insane conceitedness of the statement, but later
came to agree. You didn't get semi-professional costuming enthusiasts and
models together for a shoot without expecting a certain level of
attractiveness. Hugs were given and received with gusto for a few minutes before
Fred, Paul, and Hannah reviewed the shot list and equipment. "So Hannah
how are we going to deal with the complete lack of light?" asked Fred. Hannah
replied, "Well honestly I think we'll have to figure that out as we go
because it depends on the angle and composition. Not to mention the lens and
flash we end up using." Paul stroked his beard with feigned understanding.
"Hm, right, of course." Hannah smiled. "Did you remember your
stuff Fred?" "Oh, yeah, it's in the back with everything else."
Fred and Hannah moved to the
equipment pile and Paul moved back to both unload his car and avoid further
technical discussions. In the darkness he could only barely make out Sean's
face, but he could tell something was wrong. "Isn't this place awesome?
It's perfect for a horror shoot." He smiled, hoping it would show in his
words."Yeah, it's great, I just, I don't know." She leaned against
the car, arms folded tightly in front of her. Were it lighter Paul would have
thought it looked as though she were guarding herself. He resisted his instinct
to hug her. He needed her to be strong once they got inside. "I know this
place is creepy and I know we're 'technically' trespassing but I seriously
doubt we're going to run into any trouble. I've been here a couple times to
scout and trust me; there is nothing to worry about."
